CAC Sailors Claim Six of the top 10 Spots at the 2026 ISCA North Americans

The 2026 ISCA North American Championship in Barrington, Rhode Island provided an opportunity for sailors from across Central America and the Caribbean to test themselves at one of the largest and most competitive ISCA/Sunfish regattas of the year. With more than 100 competitors on the starting line, the event served as an important benchmark for athletes preparing for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games.
Several sailors representing CAC nations delivered impressive performances, including podium finishes and multiple top-ten results. The championship demonstrated both the depth of talent throughout the region and the growing competitiveness of CAC sailors on the international stage.
CAC Sailors Rounding out the Top 10:
2nd — Simon Gómez Ortiz (COL 2552) — Net 26
3rd — David Hernández (GUA 9) — Net 40
4th — Esneiry Pérez (DOM 11) — Net 57
5th — Joab Guzmán Vega (GUA 3) — Net 79
7th — Parker Nagle (ISV 22) — Net 85
9th — Jesús Salazar (VEN 1203) — Net 121
Colombia’s Simon Gómez Ortiz delivered a standout performance to finish second overall with a net score of 26, producing a highly consistent series that included six top-three race finishes.
Guatemala’s David Hernández finished third overall with a net score of 40 after recording three race wins and remaining in podium contention throughout the regatta.
The Dominican Republic’s Esneiry Pérez secured fourth overall with a net score of 57, continuing a strong upward trajectory with steady, front-of-fleet results.
Guatemala’s Joab Guzmán Vega added another top-five result for the region, finishing fifth overall with a net score of 79 and showing consistency across the series.
The United States Virgin Islands’ Parker Nagle placed seventh overall with a net score of 85, leading the Caribbean youth contingent and demonstrating strong speed in challenging conditions.
Rounding out the CAC top-10 presence, Venezuela’s Jesús Salazar finished ninth overall with a net score of 121, delivering a solid series that kept him inside the championship’s leading group throughout the event.

Looking Ahead to the CAC Games
The North American Championship provided a valuable preview of the level of competition expected at the 2026 CAC Games. Colombia, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, Aruba, and the U.S. Virgin Islands all demonstrated the ability to place sailors in the upper half of a highly competitive international fleet.
